Paper Mache Bowls

Paper Mache Bowls. It’s just so practical and pretty!  These paper mache bowls would be the perfect application.   Here is what you’ll need to create the shell:
Toilet paper
Brushes
Mod podge or PVA
Bowl
1/4″ circle stickers
Film
Paint

Cover the outside of a suitably sized bowl with cling film.

Cut up your toilet paper into small strips.  Be generous!  Mix it with PVA and a bit of water.

Apply a thin coat of mod podge or PVA on the bowl.

Then begin applying toilet paper on top of it. Once you set the toilet paper down, cover it with a thin coat of mod podge. Repeat this process until the bowl is coated. The more layers, the thicker the bowl.

Once dry, what you will have left is a bowl mold with imperfect edges.  Just use scissors to trim it down to the depth you want.  It doesn’t have to be perfect.  I think the irregular shape is what makes these unique!

Paint your bowls entirely white (or any color of your choice) .  It may take a few coats. Let it dry.

Using the 1/4″ circle stickers, apply them to the inside of the bowls to make a polka dot pattern of your choice. After your dots are adhered, brush on gold or pink (or any color of your choice) all over the inside, over the stickers.

Now for the fun part….  If you notice on the photo above, after we applied the leaf, we could still see the outlines of our sticker dots.  Carefully remove the circle stickers. Once removed, you will see the white painted circles peeking through.   The dots weren’t perfect!
I hope you all have fun with this project!
